How to turn an HTML page into a QR code

A QR code is just a link drawn as a pattern. To make one for your page, the page first needs to be online. SiteUp does both at once: it publishes your page and gives you a sharp QR code you can download, print and stick anywhere.

Step by step

  1. Publish the page

Drop your HTML file, folder or ZIP into SiteUp, or paste the code, and press Publish.

  2. Pick a size

In the result card, choose small, medium or large depending on where you will use the code.

  3. Download PNG or SVG

PNG is ready for messages and documents. SVG stays sharp at any size, so it is the best choice for print.

  4. Test it

Open your phone camera and point it at the code on your screen. The link should open your page.

  5. Print and share

Add the code to a poster, a menu, a card or a slide. Leave some white space around it.

A QR code cannot hold a whole website. It holds an address, and the phone opens that address. That is why you publish first and make the code second. The good news is that the code never changes as long as the link stays the same.

PNG or SVG?

  • PNG is an image file that works everywhere: WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, slides. Choose the large size for printing small items.
  • SVG is a vector file. It stays perfectly sharp whether it is on a business card or a banner. Print shops and design tools such as Canva and Figma accept it.
  • Make the code at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 inch). For posters seen from a distance, go much bigger.
  • Keep a white border around the code. It helps cameras find it.
  • Print dark on light. Inverted or low contrast codes often fail.
  • Do not stretch it or place it on a busy photo.
  • Test the printed copy with two different phones before printing hundreds.

Keep printed codes working

Printed codes live a long time, so choose a lifetime that matches. For a menu or a sign, pick 1 year and renew it from My sites. If you change your page, use Update files: the link stays the same, so every printed code keeps working.

Common questions

Do SiteUp QR codes expire?

The code itself never expires. It works as long as your site is online, and you can renew the site whenever you like.

Can I change the page after printing the code?

Yes. Update the site with new files and the same link and QR code show the new version.

Is there a scan limit?

No. There are no scan limits, no redirects through ad pages and no tracking.
